Meet Fueled by Purpose Micro Grant Winner Christina Siemer, Founder of Crate to Table

By Chris Olsen

In response to the global health crisis, My Founder Story partnered with BankCherokee to launch Fueled by Purpose micro grants. Every week through June, we awarded a grant to a female-founded small business in need.

Christina Siemer is the founder of Crate to Table, a Minnesota-based grocery shopping and food prep service. Prior to taking the leap to small business ownership, Christina worked in jobs where she was told she cared too much—something she never considered a negative. Then, after her dad had an accident and began struggling with symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, Christina realized just how short life is. She decided it was time to create her own business that reflected her personal values.

Christina launched Crate to Table in 2016 to help make people’s lives easier, save them valuable time, and provide fresh and delicious food options. Each week Christina recommends recipes based on the client’s needs and preferences. Then she does the grocery shopping, cleaning, chopping and portioning of ingredients so everything is ready to cook—saving her clients four to 10 hours of time a week on average. But more importantly, Christina helps families come to the table to connect. She believes that every meal has the potential to deliver full bellies and full hearts.

With Christina’s original business model, meal prep work took place in clients’ kitchens. But that came to a halt when the COVID-19 pandemic led to orders to isolate with no outside visitors. Christina is now shifting her business model and considering how to best serve the families she works with. Her new model may include shopping in bulk and delivering fresh groceries, but she’s still piecing it together. What’s most important to Christina is staying true to Crate to Table’s original mission to nourish and serve others. “It’s about the food. But it’s not about the food. It’s about YOU,” she says.

Christina plans to use the Fueled by Purpose micro grant to help cover costs for new tools and resources that will help her pivot her business.
